Where is EVAP charcoal canister located on 1998 V70 Volvo?
Thanks…

Depends. Most of them are just forward of the driver's wheel, under the battery tray.

Some models moved it to the right rear wheel area, which makes more sense to me.

If you are having an issue with a leak, I suggest looking around the fuel filter area. There is a hose that tends to split.

Klaus:

Do you have a picture or diagram of the location of the hose that splits?

Thanks!!

On My 1998 R, it was right next to the fuel filter. RR wheel.

Outboard of the fuel filter, or inboard?

Outboard. Just barely visible from the RR wheel well. Easier access from the trunk inspection hole.

Just crawled underneath, and saw two metal lines (6mm) with 5" long pieces of rubber hose in the middle. Felt around both rubber hoses, and neither seemed to be split. Should I still replace?

Thanks!!

If the lines were not split/cracked or loose on the metal ends, time to do a smoke test. There is a way to make your own smoke machine, just search on smoke test. A 2 liter bottle works best.

On the 98 XC the filter is on top of the gas tank, accessed through a hole in the floor. On 99-00 it's just above the rear axle accessed from under the car.

I have a '98 XC70 with a CEL code of 0442. Gas cap has been replaced, but CEL came back. I opened the access panel on the floor of the back, but didn't see a filter. Also haven't located EVAP canister.

Did smell gas once on a very rough road, but cannot see aleak anywhere underneath.

Ideas?

Thanks!

As Klaus said the location of the evap varies. on a v70 98 I had it was located under the front bumper drivers side (no j hose). On s70 98 it was under the passenger side rear wheel and a j hose is used. Check a youtube video with this type.
