Stalling? Could it be MAF? V70-XC70 1998

Greetings,

I have a V70 AWD ('98) that I am aware has a fault involving the MAF sensor. I was told that it doesn't need to be changed immediately unless the car starts running poorly. It is running fine, for the most part, but is stalling on occasion. Could a MAF sensor problem cause intermittent stalling?

Thanks

It can cause stalling problems. When the ECU does not know the actual amount of air that comes through the system, the mixture can get rich and foul the spark plugs.

Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor? Remember to never touch it with anything but the spray from the cleaner.

I have cleaned it by spraying it with MAF cleaner; is there more I should do? That worked for a while, but then the check engine light came back on and now the stalling. Do they (MAF sensors) go bad, or should cleaning be enough? Thanks, as always!

They do go bad. The thin filiment can corrode. Many different makes of cars use the same MAF, so look around for a Bosh with the same part number (not volvo part number). Otherwise, look at FCP or Tasca.
