pcv re route 850 1996

Hi all, anyone re routed the pcv hoses so as not to pressurize the crankcase ? ( if ring blowby or another issue ) I only ask as i seem to remember someone somewhere talking about someone having done it in the uk. David

FCP Groton sells a kit that replaces all pcv hoses and the oil separator under the intake manifold. The EGR components also get packed with carbon and need to be replaced as well. Parts are expensive. If you replace all this stuff and still have a problem you must have way too much blow by from the rings.

It is possible to vent to a catch can, essentially routing the PCV to atmosphere. Remembering to empty the catch can of oil before it spills all over everything is problematic. I would not suggest this be done on a turbo engine.

If your crankcase pressure is very high due to blow-by at the valve stem seals or even rings, I suggest doing some work on the engine rather than modifying the PCV system.

Hi David,

Perhaps you could bypass the entire EGR system by venting the crankcase
with a hole through the oil filler cap, easy to find at the Boneyard.
I wonder what impact this would have on engine vacuum and performance, other
than exposing the Cat and O2 sensors to lotsa extra oil and screwing up
those parts and the engine management (CPU).

A better idea might be to switch to synthetic oil, since ordinary oil
plugs up the works over time. I'm told that the oil galleries can gunk up with
dyno oil. I've never pulled an 850 head, maybe someone can comment.

Here's another thought, maybe the engine temp is critical to causing the 850
engine to build up this crusty crap, Maybe a rethink of thermostat temperature
is needed?

Bill
