imminent alternator failure? V70-XC70 1999

I just became a FWD/AWD owner this October after years of running 240s. Everything has been as good as one could expect with the '99 V70XC so far, but there is one minor concern. The charge indicator lamp stays on sometimes after the engine has been started, and won't go out until the throttle has been blipped a little, then all is well. It wasn't a problem until this morning when She Who Must Be Obeyed reached in and fired it up, and went into the house to let it warm up. when she emerged to depart the driveway, the chariot was dead, battery and all. I threw another battery into it and drove it the rest of the day without incident, other than the light needing some throttle to go out. have others experienced this? is an alternator purchase in my near future?

that's what happened to mine right before the alt let go...the brushes (especially the inside B+ one) wear and they are arcing and sometimes don't make contat as the gap widens. You'll know soon enough.

thanks V70-XC70 1999

This has been doing the same thing for 5000 miles, since we got the car. are the brushed replaceable in these, like the older Bosch units?

It could also be the wire from the alternator to the batery that is coroded at the battery end. Someone here just peeled back the insulation, brushed off the wire, soldered the exposed end to clean up the broken bits of copper, and is now good to go.
