Any idea what these symptoms could indicate? V70-XC70 2001

Checking out an 'as-is' FSBO 2001 V70, 77k - but I'm a 240 guy and know little about these cars. Anyone want to point me in the right direction, as far as diagnosing these symptoms?

First, the check engine light is on.

Second, it runs in a kind of winter mode (low gear) until it gets up to speed; at regular speed it drives very nicely.

Third, the electronic panel on the driver's door doesn't work so you can't control the window/door locks from the driver door panel.

I'll probably end up doing a pre-purchase inspection from the dealership or indie Volvo mechanic, but I'd love your thoughts first. Thanks!

Don't buy it. Simple answer. You do not want a 2001 V70 or a 2002 for that matter.

The tranny is in limp home mode! 3rd gear only, and the trannies tend to be lemons in 2001 and 2002.

The check engine light could be anything, the seller should know what the codes are. That is why he/she is selling it. It costs too much to 'fix'.

The door electrics are also a pain.

Just don't bother.

My advice is 2 cents, so you got what you paid for...

"...Second, it runs in a kind of winter mode (low gear) until it gets up to speed; at regular speed it drives very nicely..."

Given what you have observed, in addition to the stigma surrounding the 01 year transmissions, I would be inclined to pass on this one.
