94 850 N/A randomly dies 850 2004

My friends 94 850 dies sometimes at speed then cranks fine but does not start..
Wait a few minutes then starts right up. I cleaned the AMM/MAFS I'm not sure what that is called it's by the air filter intake but to no avail.. This seems to be a random event.. I'm new to 850's I'm a 240 guy...
What else should I check for ???? Thanks in advance

I had similar that turned out to be fuel pump. Not to hard to replace but as I recall a little pricey. Let me guess - about 225K miles?

when my 850 would just die going down the road, it was the mass air flow sensor. Cleaning it doesn't always do the trick. The good news is that you can get an aftermarket new one for 38.00. The Bosch is still 175.00 new. I would just get the cheap new one and give it a whirl.

Where are you buying MAF's for $38.. I went to the usual Volvo websites and the cheapest I saw was a reman for $110 with a core... Any suggestions would be helpful..

If there is no check engine light, it is probably fuel related. If the fuel pump doesn't prime, run for 1-2 seconds when the key is turned to on but before start, then check out the fuel pump relay #103.

My advice is 2 cents, so you got what you paid for...

I faced this a few years ago in a high-miles 94 850 wagon.

Fuel pump relay cured this exact problem. (Seems to affect all Volvos, doesn't it?)

Good luck.
