Front Caliper Brake Dust Boot Loose- What to Do ? 850 1995

When I recently did my front rotors and pads I noticed the dust boot had come partially loose from the caliper (does not appear torn or otherwise damaged).

I was not able to figure out how to reinstall dust boot into the caliper.

The brakes are working fine- but if there is a method (short of overhauling the calipers) I would like to "re-open my patient" to fix it properly.

Perhaps I did not look closely enough, bit it appeared to me that one would need to remove the caliper and pop the piston completely out before the dust cover could be correctly installed. I hope that there is an easier way!

Thanks !

When I recently did the brakes on my car I had the same problem. You are correct, I had to pop the piston out, then re-seat the boot, and re-insert the boot. It's a pain in the ass but it has worked, since it has stayed in place.

Re: Front Caliper Brake Dust Boot Loose- What to Do ? 850 1995

Did you have any difficulty popping the piston out of the front caliper?

I suppose you would simply remove the caliper from the rotor and while still connected to the brake lines you push the brake pedal until the piston pops out - right?

Is there any trick to the complete bleed of the system afterwards?

Thanks

Re: Front Caliper Brake Dust Boot Loose- What to Do ? 850 1995

Yor method would shoot brake fluid out everywhere. I remove the caliper, plug the end of the brake hose with a small plastic cap, so as not to leak out much brake fluid. Then I use compressed air, blown into the brake hose fitting, to pop out the piston. Put rags in front of the piston to cushion it, as any dings would be bad. As far as bleeding, I just ordered one of those Motive Products Power Bleeders on Friday.

The Motive power bleeder looks enticing - I may order one as well.

Unfortunately- I do not own an air compressor so would not be able to pop the piston out of the caliper the way you suggest.

What other options do I have in getting the piston out of the caliper?
