Rear suspension issues V70-XC70 1998

My '98 V70 feels weird when the rear suspension hits a larger bump on the freeway. It almost feels like the car steps sideways a bit. The shocks seems fine, and the only bushings I see for the rear suspension are located forward of the rear wheels. Could these be worn?
FWIW, I do not feel any play in the rear wheels when the car is jacked up.
Thanks,

Csaba

It could well be your shocks need replacement. The FWD V70 suspension is the same as the 850 with a long bar that attaches to the other side of the frame. It is this bushing that usually wears out, salt doesn't help it any. The bolts are a bear to remove, you almost need heat and an air compressor, or a lot of PBBlaster for a week prior.

Have you replaced your upper rear shock mounts? I'm not sure those are your problem since I don't remember reading about any sideways rear suspension movement when they go bad. They usually make a banging noise when going over bumps - mine did. Maybe the bolts/nuts that attach the shocks to the mounts have come a little loose?

I'll check the shock bolts, I suppose it's free :-)
But I bounced the rear pretty heavily, and it is noise free and the car does not bounce at all once I let go.
