new shimmy V70-XC70 1999

Hello,

Car has 206K has been great its whole life. driving from Lake Placid to Providence, I began to notice a shimmy in the front only while accelerating and only between 50 and 60 MPH. if i accelerate up to 55, and then coast, the wobble goes away as soon as i let off the gas. makes me think its not wheel balance. Seems to be a little more from the pass side, but not sure. The top mount seems to have a little play, I can rock the engine a bit, I don't know if this is normal.

Motor or tranny mount?
control arm?
Tie rod end?
all of the above?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Plus bearing. Control arm is a real possibility. Grab a prybar and check the bushings for play.

Motor mounts should be checked, but I doubt that is THE problem.

Just passed state inspection today, they usually check for all those front end itmes. I was working with a guy today who has an 850 i think 98, i tried to rock his engine, rock solid i could not budge it at all. Mine can rock alot from front to back.

If you can move the engine, it is time to repl the mounts. The top one is easiest if you buy a poly mount, they last forever and really do not transmit that much vibration to the cabin.

Check the bottom mount also, the one by the right front wheel and crank pulley.

Funny thing, I just ordered the rubber top mount, I was scared away by the IPD statement that it will transmit vibrations.

The Tasca web site was down last night

Brought the car to the Volvo guys near me,
New axles and the vibration is gone.
