Resetting the "service' lamp light S70 1998

With my last '95 850 I could reset the service light by just going under the hood. Alas, with my newer '98 S70 I will assume that the only way other than the dealer would be to own an OBD-II (Obi-wan) reader. Is my assumption correct?

Happy New Year to all!

It takes less than a minute to extinguish the light with the tool. Perhaps you have a local friend or mechanic with the tool. Drive by my house in Texas and I will do it for free----too bad about the long drive.

So Dick, pray tell, what exactly is this "tool"?
How did you obtain one and for how much? Not nice to tease Mr. Detail. :)

So happens that we have a lot of Volvo's in our family. Son-in-law had two '98 S70's and we have one. SIL sold his, one to our son and then gave him the tool. Believe it was $169 at the time. I have helped a friend in the past with his '96 850 that required the neutering tool. You might find one advertised at a reasonable price. Really is just a little gadget that is designed to do BMW's and Volvo's. Idea: check if any BMW guys use such a tool. You just use a slide switch to go from Volvo to BMW.

Probably TMI, but I can look at the tool and give you more information. Just a little more teasing?!

          Dick,
Just found this after some digging. It will reset the service lamp supposedly like a charm.

Happy new year! Nope, a code reader will not turn off the light. Some computer based code readers can, or a dedicated scanner for $175.

I used it as a reminder to not engage the boost for the first 2 minutes of operation.

If it really bothers you, a small piece of black electrical tape works wonders. Then, when you get around to replacing dash bulbs, just pull the service bulb.
