Blower Fan Works Intermittently 850 1995

I have a 1995 855T with a strange blower motor condition that began in the summer and has grown progressively worse. If it is cold outside 45F or below and the car is cold (as in first start of the morning or after prolonged sitting) the blower motor works just fine. If the car warms up and then I turn off the ignition (or on warm days) when I turn on the blower I receive the blinking ECC lights. I have pulled off both 4-1-1 (blower) and 4-1-9 (power stage) codes. Any thoughts on which is the culprit or possibly beginning of a malfunctioning ecc?

Of note, last winter the blower fan squealed when cold outside but no squeal when working this year.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Over time he brushes wear down and start loosing contact with the armature as the brush wires get tight. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can loosen the wiring solder joints and slip the wires a bit in the mounting board. This improves the brush contact with the armature. The motor is very easy to take apart once it's removed from the car. Pry out the connector adapter and remove the one screw on the end of the housing. Then just pull the motor out.

The part is cheap enough on eBay and in junkyards to justify swapping it out. There's a nice YouTube video of the procedure.

My 98 C70 had a blower problem. If you bent the connector to the side it would run fine... mostly. I maybe could have opened it up and fixed it, but I found a good replacement on eBay for $50 and haven't had a problem with it since.

It is good that you can delete the codes and see which one comes first. I suspect that there might even be a wiring conector problem. Some of the 1995s have had burned wires on rare occassions, and that usually happens on warm days.

Your blower is nearing the end of its life, it told you that when it started to make a lot of noise. Neither the blower or the resistor are hard to replace. Some of the after market blowers are noiser than the OEM, but tollerable. There is even a fix some where to replace the resistor inside the resistor if you are handy with a soldering iron. Do a search for that.

Don't forget to check the air filter you added to the car years back.

Finally got tired of having cold feet and did the blower motor swap. Pretty straight forward once I removed all obstructions..glove box, knee bolster, etc. Cleared B1 codes and now the blower works like a champ. Thanks for all of the replies.
