Hi guys,
4 yrs with my S70T5 and I've grown more affectionate to it than before! Although it had warped rotors, peeling door trims, squealing brakes, etc (fixed under warranty)....it's a stallion in a sedan with "on-rail" handling and safety full-time.
DIY maintenance is cheap and the car is pretty much assessible for minor repairs. Tranny and evap are holding on fine and tire wear is good. I always enjoy the ability to sprint from the onramp into merging traffic with confidence and stability over speeds.
So to all volvophiles out there, ENJOY YOUR VOLVOS!!!

I also have a 98 T5 and really enjoy it. In a month my commute goes
from 20 miles/day to 60 (but only 10 minutes longer, each way, due
to traffic). So, now I'll get to drive in something other then
stop-and-go on a daily basis (a pain with a manual transmission).
Yeah!
So, how did those S/S Brake lines work out? I find if I push on the
brakes, back off just a bit, then push down they will feel much
different on the second push. Like the first one takes up free play
between the pads and the rotors. I could go for better brake feel
(and the brakes have been recently bleed so I don't think air in
the line is the problem).

Hmmm..... I don't have the problem of lacking brake pressure in the first pump. So far before and after the S/S hoses the brakes bite on the first step. The improvement of the S/S hoses is actually on the hardness of the brake feel and a shorter brake pedal travel to full pressure.

I have to agree. I love my V70 GLT. A T-5M or an R would be over the top. It's got custom rims, low profile tires and its bright red. Painted brake calipers, tinted windows and has the IPD rear deck wing. You know, Z-28s and Mustangs are a dime a dozen, but I'm telling you, on a bright sunny day, my Volvo turns heads everywhere. It is such a blast to drive but I never abuse it. The engine's built like a fortress. Forged steel crank and connecting rods. I have the IPD swaybars and strut brace on it and it handles beautifully. Even at 193 HP, the low end torque is a kick in the pants. By far its the nicest car I've ever owned. If I could buy a new one I would. 247 HP in a wagon? Unreal. Just changed out the rear brake pads with PBR deluxe. No dust. How easy was that? I live near I-85 in SC, big time 18-wheeler traffic. One of the most dangerous highways in the US. Several fatal accidents over the past year. I feel a little safer when a semi pulls up beside me on the highway. Too many safety features to list but I like the retracting shoulder harness restraints powered by explosive devices in a crash (like in jet fighters). Remember Volvo's literal translation: "Rolling Stength" Very cool, indeed.

I love hearing about folks who are happy with their Volvos! It cracks me up though, to hear you talk about a T5 as "over the top," and a wagon with 247 HP as "unreal." My car is boring white with stock tires and wheels (OK, I added a wing though - ya got me there). To me, a bright red sedan with custom wheels and and low-profile tires with painted calipers and tinted windows and a wing is "over the top." I don't think there's anything wrong with having an 'over the top' car, mind you. It just all depends on how you look at it I suppose. Don't hate me for having a fast wagon :-)
I've had more than my share of annoyances with my 2001 V70 T5, but I too love my car. This is the first car I've ever owned that has serious "get me there NOW" power, and it's tough to get the grin off my face after a quick freeway stint. Merging into traffic can be FUN now, as I finally get to choose just where to insert my car into the fray.

I'm getting a kick out of this thread... I recently bought a 2000 V70R AWD... Silver, with 5-spoke alloy wheels, sunroof, 3-CD changer... This is my first Volvo, and I love it! Never felt more secure in a car in my life, especially at speed.... 261 horses, Michelin low-profile tires, but temporarily switched out for Gislaved snows... It doesn't seem over the top to me --- no spoilers, no tinting.... I drove Subarus for 17 years and never had a problem, but there's no going back now...

Two truths in life that I'm aware of: You can never be *too* good looking, and you can never have too much horsepower.

I just want my car to have the looks to match the performance. Like I say, I don't abuse my car but I want it to look aggressive. I tell you what I would like to do but its very expen$ive. Get an AWD rear bumper cover and get the dual exhaust from IPD. Definitely aggressive looking. 261 horses in a wagon is over the top compared to some of the other wagon fare out there. I'm having lots of fun with this car. With ABS and handling, I feel more than capable of handling any traffic hazard that might present itself in everyday driving. I agree, there is no turning back now.

HEY! I've thought about getting an AWD rear bumper cover and dual exhaust as well!
I LOVO MY VOLVO!
I LOVO MY VOLVO!
I LOVO MY VOLVO!
I LOVO MY VOLVO!
I LOVO MY VOLVO!
(Darell, you're right about the good looks and the HP. While I'm not obsessed, I wouldn't mind a little more of either, myself ;-)

I'm glad you took my comments in the right spirit. After I wrote my response to you, I realized it sounded a bit snotty....but I'm just havin' fun.
Cheers!
