Plastic trim S70

Can someone tell me how to replace a plastic trim that is running along the windshield on top of the dashboard in my 1998 Volvo S70?

Thank you

J,

That IS the dashboard. It is not a separate part.

Klaus is right that you have to remove the entire structure.

What's the problem? Might have a suggestion.

Bryan

Bryan:

The plastic piece broke in three places, and now it makes an annoying sound when the car vibrates too much. This is why I think the bloody piece needs to be replaced.

Thank you.

Hi J,

Here is the definitive link for removing and repairing the broken support tabs.

http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s70-33/dash-board-removal-mounting-tab-repair-5802/

It's a major project and some folks wait until replacing the evaporator since it requires removal of the dash. I've done mine and it was a major PITA. It had been bouncing around for years and many fastener receivers and tabs were broken and needed to be repaired.

Check the BB archives for tips on preventing the problem from coming back. Also, search the web for repairs that don't require removal of the dash. YMMV on those techniques.

This is like the ABS module problem--not a question of "if" but "when" for the 850/870 series.

What were the engineers thinking when they came up with this design?

Good luck,
Bryan

The dash board needs to come off to do that. Replacement parts usually are from a donor at a pick&pull, which is a good place to get practice to take the dash pad off.
