Jump starting 850

Klaus just posted
"Have you jump started the battery lately, before the P0120? It could be a fried ECU/ECM."

How does jump starting destroy electronics?

I'd assume he meant that reversing the poles on the battery could harm the electronics.

Incorrect jumping and/or overloading the electrical system can screw things up. If the donor car has a bad voltage regulator, it will fry wires and circuits. There are garages that have jumping machines with variable voltage outputs, if the voltage is set too high...

Good point.
I suppose if you don't know the donor car's status, it's possible, but the donor car may show symptoms too.
Regardless, if you were trying to jump the car in a dark parking lot on a rainy night, it'd be easy to miss.
