Throttle body? V70-XC70 2004

My normally aspirated V70 (180,000 miles) has recently stalled several times upon stopping. When restarting the engine would idle until put in gear, and then die. After a few minutes it returned to normal operation.
My local independent (Volvo) mechanic immediately suspected the throttle body and offered to install a refurbished one. The CEL light, which had been on prior and since, was off at that moment so he said he could not read any codes.
Is the throttle body a known issue on 2004's?
Is it likely be defective; how would this be diagnosed? IS there a code for this? Could cleaning help?
Any other suspicions?

While the electronic throttle is a possible culprit, I would stop at an autoparts store and read the codes when the CEL is on. Yes, codes for the ETM exist.

You could try cleaning the throttle body itself. It is probably grungy after 180K miles.

I removed the throttle body and found it quite black inside, so I gave it a good cleaning. CEL went off and no stalling since! Thanks Klaus.
Where's the black gunk from (exhaust gas recirc, crankcase fumes)?
The '97 and '98 models I had required the crankcase ventilation plumbing to be changed after getting clogged. Is this an issue with 2004?

I would assume that will become an issue. Volvo re-plumbed a lot of the vacuum lines and might have fixed the major problems by 2004. Just check the rear cam seal and oil smoke from the dipstick once in a while.
