Signal light lense removal V70-XC70 1998

How do I remove driver's side front signal light ? It is cracked, I need to replace it. Looking at it I can't see an easy way to do this.

There is a plastic release lever behind the signal light assembly under the hood. You depress it and hold it depressed while sliding the entire assembly forward.

The lever is not easy to reach and depress with one finger, and the temptation is to use a screwdriver or some other tool to depress it. BE CAREFUL. The lever breaks easily, if depressed too far. If broken, there is nothing to retain the assembly in its housing ... unless you use some piano wire to tie it in place. It would be a shame to buy an entire new assembly ($$$) due to a broken piece of plastic.

On my 99 V70 it just slides off, as simple as it sounds. the whole turn signal assembly just slides off.
