Oil cooler lines leaking. Bypass? 850 1995

I'm wondering if anyone has long term experience with the oil cooler bypassed.

Both lines are leaking quite a bit and it looks like the parts are around $250. So I was thinking, why not just cut off the metal lines and loop a hose instead?

Here are some other thoughts;
1. Could probably have new lines made up at a hydraulic hose place for cheaper;
2. Would a bypass hose with regular hose clamps hold up to 60 psi.;
3. How important is the cooler on a car that is not driven hard or on long grades;
4. Cardboard on the driveway is cheap, but almost as unsightly as the oil drips.

Of course I know that Volvo put those lines on there for a reason, but can anyone positively say that the engine will be ruined without them?

Most Americans do not drive the cars hard enough to make a big difference. But, I do not like the thought that my oil temps get too hot and I replaced mine.

Correct, a hydraulic shop can easily repair the lines for much cheaper. Like $50 for both lines. All you need to do then is buy a couple of O rings and new radiator end clamps to put them back on, after cleaning the soleniod (heat activated).

The hardest part of the operation is getting the bolt off/on the block that supports both lines. I also replaced one line at a time because of the routing around all of the other lines in the area - what a snake house!
