Axle part number for an V70 2006 2.5T AWD V70-XC70 2006

Hello,

I've had my mechanic replace both my front axle because they were kind of locking sometimes with driving and making some noise also when gearing rearward when parked, etc. We could ear a "crouch" coming from the front underneath when going from park position to rear.

Now both front axle are replaced and the "crouch" noise is away. Drivetrain feel tight. The problem is when accelerating hard going forward and also when taking a 90 degrees left or right, both under load. We can feel a big vibration coming from the wheel. When coasting at low speed or high speed, everything is fine. My feeling is that the axle are not working normally. Both front axle are doing this... not only one... The mechanic claim they are new and not rebuilt and that they should work fine and that it`s impossible to have both side new axle going defect... When raising the car on a lift with someone inside engaging the tranny to forward, we can see both front axle shaft not moving straight from a joint to the other, like oscillating. It`s as if they are not suited for this car... I've look at some Volvo part website and it seems that there is a difference with front axle going on a V70 2.4T, V70 2.5T Wagon, V70R, XC70, etc. Like Volvo made specific axle for all their V70 variant unlike the wheel bearing which is the same for all model. Ours is a V70 2006 2.5T wagon AWD. I'm wondering if the mechanic installed the wrong part but I can't figure out which axle model we should install... I'm leaning toward the V70 2.5T variant while I believe that on a AWD, maybe Volvo installed some XC70 axle... Anyone can help me with this ? If you were to replace both front axle on your V70 2006 2.5T AWD, what parts would you put, front left and front right ?

Let me know, I will then double check with the mechanic which part he installed on our car. (he didn't mention on the work order and invoice...)

Bruno

Axle part number for an V70 2006 2.5T AWD V70-XC70 2006

Hello,

I hade clicking noise on my s80 2004 when moving gears between park/revers/drive. It begun to happen when shop replaced right driveshaft. They could not tell me where the axle came from. I assumed it was from unkown source of very poor quality. I bought another axle from FCP groton DSS and installed by myslef two weeks ago. The clicking dissapeared. This proved bad quality of unknown axle. You can verify the axle following way. Open the hood and ask helper to move gears park/reverse/drive and look at the same time from abowe on axle. There should be not movement or very marginal. I saw large movement for bad axle. The replacement of the axle is not difficult depends on the skill. I doubt if your axle has bad part number. If the groves fits your transmission the part number is likely right. The axles might be of poor quality from the begining.
Good luck.

qmechanic
