The front tires on my car are wearing unevenly. The inside edge much faster than the rest. I had the front end alignment done few times, without any noticeable success. Are the factory specs wrong ? Has anyone dealt with the same issue?

These cars need a 4 wheel alignment-- don't let the guys at the alignment shop tell you they can't adjust the rear-- if they tell you that, you are at the wrong shop. Chain stores are often less than ideal-- I'd try to find a mom & pop shop that specializes in alignment rather than having some kid who spends most of his day rotating tires and changing oil do the job. I just had my 2000 V70 aligned and was surprised at what a difference it made in how it handles.

I've had bad tire wear with bad ball joints that didn't clunk but were well worn. The only way I could tell they were bad was by checking the axial play after unloading them with a pry bar.

Good luck!

Ditto on the struts. I had a right front tire wear rapidly, swapped with the rear, had it aligned even though it drove straight, but new shocks did the trick.

I had serious alignment problems that no one seemed to be able to solve - then I decided to start changing everything. Turned out to be the struts were completely shot. It's hard to tell in these cars because the springs are so good/well matched to the weight of car. It's pretty expensive to just change the struts because you think they /might/ be bad though...

I was appalled that the alignment guys weren't weighing in on the condition of the struts. I've had my car in for an alignment and had them call me back and say "the ball joint is pretty worn so I'm not going to line it up till you get it fixed". You would think they'd have look/feel of the suspension before they got to work on an alignment too...
