I don't know what options are on the one you've picked out, but I wouldn't sign the paperwork.

The FWD-R is listed at 42k, with some negotiating and some options lets assume that is where you end it at. What are you going to do with the car when your 4 years are up?

Let us assume you're not completely against keeping the car, so how does everything work out? IF you keep it under 12k/yr (maybe you can, I wouldn't be able to keep it under 20k), you're going to end up paying 26,883 for this vehicle. Looking at 2007 XC90s with similar options, your blue book value is about 25k. If you had bought the SUV yourself, you'd have 15k left to sink into it before its paid off.

    Other things to consider:

IIRC leasing does NOT make you eligible for the

the R Base is all is need and its around 42k...dont need nav and all that crap...when the 4 years are up i turn it in and will not keep it..should be ok with 12k miles

OK then, lease and you're out just under 27k. Buy it and you're out 41 (I assume you've still got a Volvo around to get the loyalty discount) minus whatever you can get what you sell it (probably ~25k, should get that as trade in). 16k vs 27k...

Also, Volvo website lists the AWD (what i assume to be the R, same total price) at 499/mo for 36 months. Why would it increase your price that much if you're willing to take another year?

residual is under 20k...so there is no way you can get 25k on a trade in for this after 4 yrs..i wish volvo's held their value or this would be a purchase vs a lease...my other option is a 2012 pilot but sooooo boring

I think I know why the monthly price is so high, it includes taxes. Otherwise, the total payments would be almost $30K for a $42K car - residual value of $11K.

These are dealer prices for XC90s in the Twin Cities area. Notice that the 2008 cars start at $24K for high miles. Yes, Yes, this is not trade in value, but in your case, the dealer will be making a profit with any price above $13K.

Hmmmm. That's 30K for 4 years so long as you don't go over 12,000 miles/year. What does a new one cost? $41K base for the R? Is it going to be worth more than $11K after 4 years(if so, you loose). What about the 20% discount that a buyer will get(you loose).
