OBX exhaust. Is it any good? 850 1997

Hello Brickboard. I am considering an OBX turbo back exhaust system for my 97 855R. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it is any good? Does it fit easily? Or how it compares to the IPD system? Thanks. Warren

OBX exhaust. Is it any good? 850 1997

I bought this for my 1996 850 Turbo Sedan after the pipe at the rear of my cat rusted out and it fell to the ground. This is most certainly the best pipe for the price as it is all stainless. I bought an aftermarket Turbo back to the cat part from FCP Groton and the flange did not fit. This was the first time a part did not fit from FCP but they returned it for me and paid for the shipping (excellent company!) The OBX kit is very nice and fits "pretty" well. The only problem I had was towards the rear, the bend in the pipe that goes over the rear arm area hits a litle against the heat shield under the car. I had to bend the heat shield back and remove a piece. I since have bought all new hangers and brackets and plan to install them with a few extra washers to drop the rear end of the exhaust kit about half inch and that should fix it perfectly. As for driving with the pipe it sounds excellent! I am so happy with it, and noticed an instant improvement with the low end of the car from a dead stop. It seems to pull harder from a dead stop. The other big thing here is the OBX kit has no cat. I will have to get a shop to cut the pipe and weld in a stainless cat for me. Because of no cat I got a Check Engine Light (CEL) about 2 months after driving the car. I cleared it but it came back. It is for slow readings on the rear O2 sensor, probably due to no cat. Once I get the cat welded in I am sure it will all be fine. I would recommend this kit, for the price it is the nicest kit I could find online that was all stainless steel. The pieces fit together just fine, O2 sensors fit in just fine, all around easy install and nice performance. The only thing on the sedans is that the actual tail pipe sticks out a bit farther than normal, about 1.5 inches if that. I believe this is because the wagons are a bit longer so the kit accommodates both. Just watch yourself....I burned my leg after shutting the car down and getting my mountain bike out of my trunk. Left a nice burn for a few weeks! Enjoy if you do install it!
