My '98 V70 was totaled thanks to a deer and I am looking to replace it with another V70 only a few years newer. I am having trouble finding a V70 in the 2004 to 2006 year range locally. I have found a 2004 XC70 with low miles at a reasonable price. Should I go ahead and get it or wait for a V70 to show up? I have no need for AWD here in Mississippi but it would not hurt since we do get snow a couple of times a year. Opinions, please.

I agree that I have no NEED for AWD but for $12,500 and 66,000 miles it is hard to refuse. Having owned a 1986 244 and a 1998 V70, I am quite familiar with Volvo maintenance and quirks. I may regret it but I'm taking it. Thanks for the honest opinions.

We have a 2004 V70 and a 2003 XC and live in New England.
I concur with Klaus, it is a more complex vehicle, etc, and if you do not have lots of snow????
However, I like the XC ride better and when it rains, it's the car to be in.

Hi, have 2x850 for years, newest v70 is haldex awd with d5 engine and 6geartronix.
I'm learning how to service bevel/haldex/rear diff which is reasonable additional work. but here in scandinavia we drive months in snow every year so it is worth also the increased risk of failure. but just for fun-no thanks.

You need AWD like a hole in the head. Can you expand your search a little? Use cars.com and autotrader.com, not just craigslist.

I just got an '04 two months ago with 136K on it, but it has been dealer serviced from day one. Here in central TX I do not really need the AWD either, but is is a sweet vehicle. Am learning to service it now. There are the usual Volvo maintenance thing such fluids that need attention.

Providing you have good service records, I believe it is a good car. For a lot of good information go to volvoXC.com, much information to study.
