Hello everyone!

My 1999 S70 is leaking gas from somewhere at the top of the tank. It's dripping down on the filler tube side. I took the access panel off in the trunk and found gas on top of the pump. I took it to my indy Volvo guy and he replaced the Fuel-sender and pump to the tune of 500.00 for the pump. The tube taking fuel to the fuel filter was also replaced.
Now the leak has started again and in the same place. Leak only happens when I let the car sit on a full tank overnight. What's left to be fixed here? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before I contact the mechanic. I'm trying not to get shafted with another $800.00 repair bill.

Turns out the gasket was pinched so some fuel was getting out. The problem should hopefully be fixed now. Gotta be slow and careful when replacing that gasket...

Thank you everyone for the rapid responses. I severed the line trying to remove it from the vehicle and replaced it as part of the job. He said he had to drop the tank to get to it and I'm sure that was the bulk of his labor as the pump replacement sounds pretty simple.
I hope he replaced the gasket when he replaced the pump. The work order says he replaced the assembly and I figure that means the gasket as well but I'll ask him when I go over there.
I mainly wanted to know if there was anything else that could allow/cause this to happen. I guess the gasket and that large black screw are the next culprits?

p.s. Sorry Klaus, I should've specified that the hose was broken by me exercising my learning curve in the picture. :^)

According to your picture, I wouldn't even start the engine. Send this picture to the mechanic, ASAP. The nipple is broken off, and he did it!

Sorry Klaus. The hose was broken by me trying to get the pump off the car before they got their hands on it. Those things are tough to get off. They replaced the hose for me and had to drop the tank to do it. That was expensive.

I don't know why they replaced the sender. His part list says he bought a new fuel pump ($500) and the work order says he replaced the fuel pump and sender assembly. Maybe they mis-wrote it when he wrote up the work order. I'll have to ask them when I go back...

Please tell me that photo was taken BEFORE the mechanic repaired it, and not after.

If he replaced the entire sender unit, then every connection there is his responsibility. Also, it might be that he just didn't get the large bunk nut tight or the rubber seal isn't in quite right.

Unless one of the hoses is leaking somewhere away from the connection to the sending unit, then he just needs to go back in and correct his error at no charge.

I would top the tank off and have another look-see to determine where it's still leaking BEFORE you take it back to him. That way you can point it out to him and he can't pull the wool over your eyes.

FWIW I've had pretty bad success re-using the rubber gaskets. I decided last time that I would endeavour to ALWAYS buy a fresh new gasket when putting sending units back in. They always seems to leak after being installed a couple of times.

Thank you for the suggestion. I would assume a mechanic would know to replace the gasket since he does this more often than I do. I make it a point to replace gaskets when I do various things on my car as well (like the oil filler cap gasket). I'll make sure to ask him when I get the car back to him.

Funny thing is, the fuel pump had been replaced by the previous owner at a shop about 1.5 years before this and the car leaked when it was full when I got it. It may be possible that the man who did that job also did not replace the gasket.

haha no I saw the pic, I just wanted to mention that it's a good idea to go for a new gasket when you're screwing around in there too. Obviously the SEVERED LINE is going to have to be fixed!!
