resetting the computer S40-V40 2003

I got a MAF code but replaced a vacuum hose that i thought may have had a leak. The check engine light went off after the replacement for about 4 miles and is now back on. I am ready to replace the MAF. Should I and how do I reset the computer before and after the MAF replacement.

If the error code is indeed for the MAF, then replacing the MAF will allow the computer to turn off the code, all by itself. If you delete the code, before or after replacing the MAF, the computer will have to 're-learn' itself.

There is very little re-learning with a MAF replacement. If you use a scanner to delete codes, then the computer uses multiple drive cycles and engine speeds to re-learn. The process could take days or weeks, so it is not a good thing to do if you live in a state that is about to do an emmission test.
