94 850 cold idle problem 850 1994

Yes, I know the car does not have a choke, 230,000 miles or so, and the car is acting like it has no "choke" when started.

The car is acting just like a car did back in the days of stuck chokes. In nice warm weather, it starts right up but has a bit of a rough idle, as if the choke is not engaged. Bit of throttle play, drive off and when warm it behaves perfectly.

Now that the weather is getting a bit cooler, it starts, but the "throttle play" is much more necessary as the car wants to die. VERY low idle...

Again, drive it a bit, it warms up, no issues.

So, my question is: What is the "part" or "whatever" that handles cold idle speed or enrichment? It seems that there has to be something that "tells" the FI system to run a higher idle until warm?

Hope somebody can help!

Steve

Wnen was the last time you cleaned the throttle body? Things get pretty dirty and can choke up the air supply.

I'd start by cleaning the Idle Control Unit. It may be gunked-up after 230K.
I'd also clean the MAF sensor.
This assumes that all regular maintenance items have been addressed. In other words, you don't have spark plugs, air filter etc. that have never been changed.

Thanks everyone, the ICV seems to have been the problem, back to normal...

      Well, normal for 230,000 miles!

      Appreciate all the help...!
