Door Lock/Gas Door Update--Temporary Fix?? V70-XC70 2001

Took the car to dealer today--it seems there have been other reported problems like I am having throughout the country. The TEMPORARY fix is: wiggle or massage the front passenger side door lock control button(next to the window button). After doing this a bunch of times the locking system seemed to reset itself, the tailgate and gas door are now unlocked, and the dome light switches and sunroof now work! The techs are'nt sure what is happening, but it may be bad switch and/or combination problem with the computer program and/or something with the remote frequency.--We still had problems with the remote after we got the doors to unlock. It seems the remote will unlock/lock the car when IT wants to. You can stand there and push it for a minute, nothing happens, then five minutes later it will work.

This is a real problem--as noted earlier, when you loose the locking system there is no way to gas up the car! Shy of busting the filler door open.

The car goes in next Friday. They will run the OBD on it and see if any codes show up. Unil then, I hope my massging technique pulls me through!!

Re: Door Lock/Gas Door Update--Temporary Fix?? V70-XC70 2001

Planman,

I recently had a problem with an S60, which is just a four door version of your V70. The car had a false alarm problem which ended up being due to the remotes, they were sending signals out without touching the buttons. Your car may have the same problem, just giving different symptoms. I read in a tech note some where, that on some cars if you were to try to lock your car with the remote from the inside, with the key on, it will disable the upper electric module and the car will have to be "reset". So, if your remote is falsely activating it could cause this problem. Two other possibilities I can think of are that you may have a loose positive or negative battery terminal, or the dealer may not have removed the factory equipped battery saver when you bought your car. Any time you disconnect the battery the car has to be "reset" for certain things to work.

Re: Door Lock/Gas Door Update--Temporary Fix?? V70-XC70 2000

Planman,

I know the feeling as I too had the very same gas filler door not wanting to unlock. I was at the dealer yesterday for my 15K miles service and told them, for the third time, the same issue with the gas door. They ended up replacing the electrical motor which releases the door. Apparently this part has a small electronic board (chip??) and was the culprit. The first two visits were a lube then a window swich replacement which did nothing for me. Hopefully this is a Permanent fix.

Hope this helps..

Either front door lock switch can malfunction as I've seen the same occur with the LF too with earlier models besides 2001 V70s.

The '01 V70/XC is different than the earlier versions electrically but it's been defective switches with the older cars.
