power seat lurching 850 1995

The power seat back of my wife's 854T won't move forward. When I click the switch to move it forward, I get a brief burst of vibration without movement, then nothing. I played around with it, moving the seat further back, and now she has to sit with a folded blanket behind her in order to see over the dash.

I read some earlier posts, but I still need some guidance. Is this similar to the cable problem I've read about in some posts? Is this more likely a problem with the switch? The motor?

I'm a math teacher. Please use small words.

Louie

Re: power seat lurching 850 1995

For starters, I would assist the seat by gently pulling it foward and pressing the button at the same time. Just need to give it a little help to get it moving again. As far as a remedy to the problem, it sounds like the POTS are going south in the motor/switch/gearbox area. I would suggest checking out www.volvospeed.com and navigate to the maintenance and repairs section. Once there look at the section covering the replacement of the seat back cables. In that section there is some info about the POTS and switches. Good luck, and have fun.
