Would you buy 97 850 with 283K? 850

Minnesota car, garaged in winter, never had the salt exposure on the roads. One owner all records. They are asking 2500 for it which is high according to edmunds (private sale).

Thoughts? Things to look out for?

Thanks in advance!

20,000 miles a year and never driven between Nov-March? That sounds like a stretch. 850 and younger Volvos don't rust, so that doesn't mean anything. By that mileage, all of the front end bits have been replaced. The driver's seat will need replacing because of the seatbelt wear.

That is a LOT of money for the miles. It would have to be in exceptional mechanical shape for me to even consider buying it. Even if they drove to Fla every winter, that is just 3K miles round trip. Was it maintained at Borton? Has the evaporator been replaced? If the owner is a traveling salesman, the high mileage is good because highway driving is what these cars were designed to do.

It is not like the engine will fall out of these 850's, but the tranny fluid needs to be red and all of the electrical systems must work as designed.

I would offer $1500 at the most if all of the above is true.

    Klaus
