Need price estimate for 15000 mile tune and front dash noise S70 2000

I"m getting charged around $200 for a 15000 mile tune up. Is this the right price? Just wondering. Also, have any of you guys took your car in for dash noise? My dash sounds like it's going to fall apart from all the rattling it does.

thanks.

tim

Wait til you go for the 30K mi. service, try $600+! Back when I was dirt-poor and drove (and worked on) old rusty cars, I wouldn't dream of spending that on a major repair, let alone a scheduled service. But I plan on getting an extended warranty and I don't ever want Volvo service to be able to say about my car "You didn't have the scheduled service done according to our records, that's why your [evap\trans\ECU\turbo\cooling system\rotors, etc.] failed. No coverage, sorry."

In Chicago service is $70-78 an hour. The 30K is a lot of system checks, time-consuming labor stuff, brake fluid flush, coolant flush, etc. and stuff I wouldn't bother with if I didn't hope to have the car for a long time. If anyone has skipped it or done it themselves and had Volvo honor an extended warranty, please let me know.

Tim,

I am paying $180 for my 15K service today, and feeling more foolish by the moment based upon the other replys.

Dave

Re: Need price estimate for 15000 mile tune and front dash noise S70 2000

Tim....1st, its not a 15k tune-up! Its a 15k service! No engine work is done other than the oil change and cabin filter! If you have a reputable dealer they should not be doing any other engine work!!! Our dealer would have charged about $175+ for the work, which include the same checks as the 7500 mile service plus lubing hinges ect...oil/filter, cabin air filter and a check of the brake pads, lights, battery/washer fluids! Since my dealer charges $50+ bucks for an oil change...I go to Jiffy lube(my one keeps the filters in stock) and I pay about $25 bucks...If I get the oil myself on sale, then they charge me another $1.00 but generally I save about 25-30 bucks. The cabin filter should cost about $20-22.00 and take you about 10 minutes to change and about 20-30 min. savings in labor! My complete cost on my wifes V70 with both dealer and Jiffy Lube/my cost for oil and cabin filter was $128.00! National quick oil change outfits are generally fine...just quiz them on how many Volvos they do? Do they keep Volvo filters in stock? What does their computer show the crankcase takes....PS read you manual, it spells out exactly what needs to be done!!!!Anything else the dealer wants to do is unnessesary according to Volvo...except whats in the service manual......enjoy, Bill

I am not really sure what they do at 15,000 miles but it sounds too early for anything that should reasonably add up to $200. They will most likely be checking this and inspecting that- things that you can do yourself. My advaice would be to either change the oil yourself or take it somewhere else and hold on to the $175 difference.
