A-Pillar broken? 850 1995

I've narrowed down my squeeking problem to my A pillar. I hope that's what it's called. It attaches to the front strut and goes down to another piece of metal. Whenever I tug this stiff arm, I've noticed it squeeking, but there is very little movement. I've tightened both bolts, but I still get the squeek. Could the metal simply be worn out and need replacement. Also is this a hard piece to reinstall. I assume it just needs to be bolted on by holding on the the nut with one wrench/vise grip and turning the wrench on the otherside for both ends.?.

Thank You

Sandro P. Seminara

It looks as though it's a stabalizer. This should bee very simple to replace right?

      NOT A-Pillar broken? 850 1995

1 - get a repair manual (or two different companies' books, as repair manuals generally describe one specific model and two increase your chances of your problem being addressed) read the introduction to each chapter

2 - identify the part you see a problem with

      3 - follow the instructions

4 - obtain the greater understanding of the interactions between the parts of your car as you drive and you will never misdiagnose nor pay for a repair in the long life of your investment

      anti-sway bar link? 850 1995

I think you're talking about a part called a anti-sway bar link (goes between the strut and anti-sway bar?) and typically the ball sockets wear out and cause noise.

It's easy to replace if that's it. Do both sides too btw.

        Re: anti-sway bar link? 850 1995

The wierd thing about this is that I only hear this creeking after about 20 minute of driving. If I press down on the car after a 30 minut drive I hear it. But if I push down on it in the morning I don't? I'm unable to remove the bottom bolt with a socket wrench bottom anti-sway link bar, but I've undid the top one. With that unloosened I've moved the Ball Joints around and haven't heard any thing.

Use a 17 mm wrench to back up the nut that attaches to the little ball joint on each end of the sway bar link. On the other side of where you see the ball joint and boot, there is a thin boss that has some flats that can be gripped by the wrench. One explanation of why you don't hear the noise in the morning could be that the grease hasn't heated up from use and is more viscous and masks the play.
