Coolant Temp Sensor. Replaced today along with thermostat. Easy job, now no start. Prior to fixing, the engine would rev to 3000 rpm, then idle rough, then stall. Strong smell of fuel.

I'm going to pull the plugs tomorrow, as they're most likely fouled. Any other possibilities? I have no new or pending codes. Happy 4th folks....

ECT sensor will default to very cold readings when it is INOP, causing the engine to run too rich. BUT, it will not cause the engine to idle too high.

You have another problem: Unmetered air entering the intake manifold is the only realistic solution. Start checking the vacuum lines, the leak will be quite large.

Thanks Klaus - there was a slit in the hose attached to the intake manifold. Replaced it and all is well. I appreciate your wisdom...

Just wondering there's no chance you wrote the code wrong and its P0171? It sounds like you've got a vacuum leak and are running too rich.

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

I was sober and I'm not dyslexic :) The P0117 is from my brand new code reader. I believe the coolant temp sensor being out of commission would result in fuel dumping into the system, thinking the car was very cold. Then the air mass meter, in an attempt to correct the fuel dump would increase RPM's to compensate. (?)

I'll try cleaning / drying the plugs during the week and post back results. Have a great 4th.
