Electronic climate control problems 850 1984

After installing a new ac evapator the electronic climate control is acting up. the dampers seem to have a mind of their own and inconsistant. must one have a dealer set the dampers again after a dash removal? can one program them without a handheld scan tool on the 1995 and earlier. my haynes talks about programing one damper after replacing it. but it didn't take.

you seem like an expert on the ECC :) I just bought a 95 850 which has blinking REC and AC OFF indicators that show some problem in the ECC. Any idea's that I can try out before sending to a dealer ?

shyam, study the ECC section of your manual (or if you don't have it download it from the link below). I think the blinking REC simply indicates that it's been manually changed to REC to override the automatic change-from-recirculating-to-fresh-air function (I learned of this on this board, earlier posts). There's a simple way to get the default function back, but I don't recall what it is. Search the board, the manual, or maybe someone else will know. I don't think it's a major problem though. Good luck.
