Spare Tire cargo lock stuck V70-XC70 1998

So...

I wanted to lock the spare tire compartment the other day and had a few issues doing so. It was stuck so to speak but with a few back and forth attempts it locked no problem. I then went to unlock it and I am "stuck" again. I have tried some WD40, different key(s), pulling the handle (as to try and help it out) and have had no success. It was 89 today and I tried it again and no dice. I was so tired after cleaning the interior that I contemplated drilling the darn lock out but figured there must be someone else who has had this happen?

Although I never plan on using the spare tire ever I would still like to have access to the area for two reasons:
1. not having access to something in my car is upsetting.
2. I plan to mount a small 150 watt bass amp to the bottom section of the "2nd" door which is normally where the backside of the 3rd row seating is. My car does not have the 3rd row option.

Any ideas aside from Dewalting the lock out? I have three keys to the car to which I am the only driver. I was going to take one of them and use some vice grips so I can get some leverage...only as a last resort as with my luck I will lose not only a locking device, but the key would snap :-/

Regards
Steve

PLEASE, don't use pliers. And no more WD40, fish oil cleaner.

You got it to work once, keep trying to slide the key in and out to get the pins to unstick. Wiggle the key a little in an up/down motion (meaning blade), anything to make it move. With the key in the lock, bang on the cover?

Got any silicone spray to get the fish oil out?

Have you seen this diagram of how the lock works?

What part of the mechanism isn't seeming to work. Does the key seem to "want to turn" but its stuck, does it not budge, something different?

It looks like everything is bolted from the underside, so you can't just unbolt the lock (unless you get it open again.. Can you open the side slat and get your hand in to jimmy the lock or not?

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

      ALAS!

Took about three weeks of randomness trying to get the lock to budge. It was as if the wrong key was being used despite using the same key that locked it. Regardless I tried all three keys I had and it would not budge.

The culprit: "some stuff got into the lock". Seems to be remnants of small pieces of stuff that accumulated over the years....sand, etc.

Just enough grains got into the lock presumably when I inserted the key thus causing the key to not seat all the way.

I took a spare key, put it i the lock and gave it a generous whack with a rubber mallet and then it finally turned. I then used a magnifier glass with LED light and small nail (to open the lock safety latch thing) and saw all the crap that was inside. Some air removed the remainder of the accumulation and now lock works fine.

Just in time to drop it off to have some Nivomats dropped in :(
Some (previous owner or shop) installed FWD shocks on the rear and they are blown. Car bounces like a low rider. Got a good deal on some used ones from a car that was totalled.
