Crash Sensor & SRS Light 850 1997

Just took my '96 850 GLT Wagon in and getting a report back that the Crash Sensor has gone off, and although airbags did not deploy, this will require the following:

-$450 to get a new sensor

-$420 in labor to replace.

I have looked into past postsand noted that the SRS sensor can often be turned on by loss of power or faulty contacts. Can I ask the service place to confirm that the SRS sensor is in fact getting power or is there a way to tell that the Crash Sensor has deployed?

Answers appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Matt:

For liability reasons, I wouldn't think any dealer or reputable shop would ever use a used part when it comes to the air bag systems in autos.

I'm missing something here, the crash sensor is under your center console, about one hour labor to replace it, so I don't understand the $420 labor charge, also I'm not positive but I think a crash sensor is more than $450, last I remember it's closer to $1000. What are the codes stored in the SRS system?

      Rich,

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry, I misquoted the labor, that $420 was to replace Crash Sensor and to fix a crack in the upper motor mount.

I will askwith what codes from the sensor.

If they are charging $450 for the sensor, my guess is that it may be used.

      Thanks,

      Matt

$420 to replace the crash sensor and fix the upper motor mount is still 200-250 too high for labor. Find another dealer and get a second opinion. Rich is right, crash sensor runs closer to 1000. Tell us what the codes are.

Okay after a little haggling, here are the codes from the SRS sensor: DTC SRS 112

Does this help with determining the issue?

Re: Crash Sensor & SRS Light 850 1997

112 is internal fault in the SRS module, the only repair is to replace the sensor. The sensor is located below the center console and labor on this is about one hour. The part number for the sensor is 9459275, uncertian about cost.
