Clearing the Check Engine light 850 95

Hi folks. 95 854T. My check engine light has been on for quite some time. I don't have a code scanner, but am highly confident that the cause was a bad front O2 sensor (previous trip to the dealer found the cause of intermitent check engine light to be slow responding front 02). I replaced the sensor and had the battery unplugged for about 30 minutes - the check engine light is still on.

I know that if there is a fault the check engine light will stay on for some time after the fault is detected. Does anybody know how long after the fault the light typically stays on? Other than with a code scanner, is there a way to reset the light? I would like to find out if replacing the O2 sensor cleared the problem.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Clearing the Check Engine light 850 95

go to www.bay13.com for clearing instructions. it will also give you the volvo 800# to buy a booklet with all the codes so you don't have to see the dealer.

Re: Clearing the Check Engine light 850 95

Thanks for the tip. I've been to Volvospeed before. Since the car is a Turbo, it uses the newer engine management system with the ODB-II connector. I haven't tried the magic boxes for anything but the service light.

Re: Clearing the Check Engine light 850 95

If you have a 1995, then the OBD II connector in front of your shifter (underneath the coin tray) is not used for any diagnostics, they put it there but it doesn't work, you have to use the connectors by your washer fill. The OBD II connector didn't become functional until 1996 (USA)

Re: Clearing the Check Engine light 850 95

Thanks a bunch for the tip. I used box A and my Haynes manual. I was able to see the code was in fact 4-3-5, which was the O2 sensor code. It was the only code and it cleared out.

Thanks,

Dave
