Recirc Pump problems 850 97

The "Check Engine" light has come on in my 850. Last time that happened, the recirculation pump had seized up. I'm gonna guess it's the same thing this time - apparently, it's a pretty common problem. I looked under the hood and could not see the recirc pump. I have not crawled underneath yet, because it's cold out there!

Does anyone know where I should look to find the recirc pump? I would like to remove & test it myself before paying someone $600 to replace it.

Thanks -

Re: Recirc Pump problems 850 97

I would take a look at the error codes before I drop $600 for a part I might not need. Got to the following site

http://www.volvospeed.com/Volvospeed.htm

and it will tell you where to check the codes and how to check the codes. Once you have them, reply to this posting with you error codes. Someone should be able to help tell you what the error code means.

Re: Recirc Pump problems 850 97

If you're talking about the air pump, it's attached to a bracket mounted to the frame rail under the battery tray. There is a hose aprox 1.25" diameter coming out of the air filter box that goes down beside the battery. Follow this hose, it ends at the air pump. Be advised, the pump may have failed again, but theres about a hundred other things that can trigger the engine light.
