Tranny Problems? 850 95

Two questions... ive been reading numerous responses and am curious about the codes everyone talks about. Where do you search the car for codes and is there any special diagnostic equipment needed for this. Question two: My 95 850 continues to rev up and down causing the tranny to upshift and downshift. When i press on the accelerator hard the problem seems to go away for a few days and even weeks. This is an intermittent problem that would be difficult to diagnose without it occuring while at the shop. any suggestions or possible answers to this problem would be appreciated.

    Richard,

Your '95 was the last model year that self diagnostics was made available via two connectors known as Data Link Connectors. You will find them hanging off the ECM (Engine Control Box). You can both read codes (fault codes stored by the computer) and input codes for doing things like turning off the service lamp etc...Much has been written about this, check tha archives. You also want to purchase the "Pocket Data Handbook" for your car, listing all the codes and what they mean...Good Luck.
