Fault codes here 850 1994

Recently on a cold winter morning, I cranked my wife's 850 (1994 N/A with 79k miles) to let it warm up before she embarked upon her day. Immediately after starting, the check engine light illuminated itself in the dash. So, today I spoke with the car (you know, man to volvo) and it told me the following . . .

Socket A6-154:TRANSLATED- Leak in EGR System

Socket A3-144:TRANSLATED- Brake discs overheated

Socket B1-235-325:TRANSLATED- Damper motor faults (this is recurring, and I think I have to replace the motor to fix it)

Socket B2-122: ??

Once our little pep talk was over, I smacked it around a bit and it decided to forget what it told me (all except for the B2 socket that just wouldn't cooperate).

I got in the driver's seat, shut off the ignition, then cranked the car. Lo and behold, the check engine light is off, and the ABS light is on! This has left me perplexed, not that it takes very much, and the B2 code has my dictionary stumped (aka Haynes manual). Maybe I made a big mistake by messing with the B2 socket and the illuminated ABS indicator is evidenced to it. Then again, I have no idea! Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

B-2, 122, vehicle speed not above 35kph or no vehicle speed signal. If you check B-2 after test drive and before shuting off engine, this code should not be stored. The cruise system cannot be properly diagnosed without first driving the car, activating cruise functions, and then check codes without turning off engine. Once you turn it off, codes are lost. ABS light may be due to a faulty ignition switch. Try turning the key slightly with light on and see if it goes out. If so, you need a switch.

    Mark,

Socket B2-122 is normal, I learned this in this group. This is cruise control, about speed being below some value (40 km/h?), and since the car is not moving, this is OK.

When I bought my 850 last summer, I pulled a bunch or error codes from ABS (no idea how long they sat there), and when I reset them, the ABS light was ON. It turned off when the car did that chattering ABS self-test at 20 mph. No errors since then.

I think this is not uncommon for some systems to set error codes (and some of them trigger others, like chain reaction)when the problem is not really there. If these codes persist, this becomes meaningful.

    Yuri
