Cleaning headlamp covers V70-XC70 2005

The headlamp covers on my '05 V70 are corroding on the outside, which I intended to attack with some plastic cleaner or headlight restorer kit. However, the inside seems to be bad, as well. It's very distorted inside; maybe some moisture, not sure since I'm not in there yet.

How do you remove the covers themselves ? Does the entire headlight assembly have to come off, and if so, how do you get to it ?

In order to remove the headlight assembly, the bumper cover must first be removed. Don't you like the way car makers design cars?

If you suspect moisture is getting inside your lights, check the 2 access panels in the back of the assembly. Clean the rubber gasket, and make sure they are in contact all the way around the opening.

If the bulbs are not OEM, make sure they are not too hot. The brighter the bulb, the more heat it produces, and then the lens can get distorted.

I was afraid the answer was something like that. Any tips on how to get to the bumper cover bolts/nuts ?

        I found this for an S80 2001:

The front bumper has to be partially removed on one side to replace a headlight assembly or glass.

Start by removing the upper clips that retain the glass to the headlamp shell.
Next, drill off the 4 plastic-headed rivets inside the wheel well (have new rivets and a rivet gun handy for re-installation).
Remove the headlight wiper arm, the black plastic bumper trim cover just below the headlight (just pull off carefully), and the side marker lamp (which is attached to the black cover). The plastic parts are easier to remove if you heat them first with a hair dryer or heat gun to make the plastic more soft and pliable.
Remove the turn signal lamp assembly (push down on the release tab from the top next to the headlight, then slide forward).
Remove the 2 plug covers in the lower front area of the bumper, and remove the bumper retaining bolts. The bumper will now slide forward enough to remove the remaining clips that retain the glass to the shell.

This is how to get the lense off:
