Sticking shifter button S40-V40 2001

What kind of lubricant should I use to free uP the shift selector button? It sticks in place and I have to pry it out to get the gear to lock in.

I like PB Blaster, others have used WD40.

And other others have replaced the button altogether.
IPD has a replacement for around 30-40 dollars.

I go the cheap route and give the button a squirt of silicon every few months.

What kind of silicone spray do you use? WD40 stinks so bad I won't spray that inside my car or I won't be able to drive it for months! I am guessing PB blaster would smell as bad. But silicone is nontoxic and doesn't stink so I'll go that route first.

I just get a generic can at the auto parts store. It smells a little sweet, but that goes away rapidly. Silicone can also be used in the window channels when they get noisy. A can has a shelf life of decades.

I know what you mean with PBBlaster and WD40. They really do stink for at least a week or two.

Hi,
What is IDP? And does the replacement button come with install directions? I'm can do minor repairs if I have guidance. Thanks.

Not sure what IDP is, but IPD is a supplier of Volvo parts old and new.
You should have no trouble searching for them on the web.
