I see some people suggest you not connect wiring for a trailer direct to the vehicle's wiring but rather make the connection through Trailer.com's "Modulite". (or similar unit) Any suggestion/comments concerning this? If the "modulite" is needed what is the purpose of the modulite unit?

    Other than making sure the extra bulbs get enough power to be bright and keeping the bulb out feature intact...

      The other thing that the "adapters" do is convert the 3-wire independent amber turn signal system to the 2-wire system that most trailers have. Most trailers have the brake and stop signal in the same filament of a single bulb. The Volvo has separate turn signal and brake light.

      To add to the confusion there are powered and un-powered adapters.
      The powered adapters require a separate power wire. They then do not affect the "burned out bulb" indicators because they do not take any appreciable current from the light circuits.
