98 V70 T5 Blown motor V70-XC70

I have a 98 V70 T5 with blown engine with 240 K. How much Should I ask for it if I want to sell it?
Thanks.

You are too vague, really. How good is the rest of the car? If it is mint, then you could ask more. Has it been well maintained? Are there other maintenance items that need done?

Even if it is pristine except for the engine, you're going to have a hard time getting more than 1 or 2k I would think . . . people just don't want to mess with it.

What blew on the engine? Is it just the turbo, piston rings, rod(s), broken timing belt?

Nate

In general the car was in a good shape. No accident. Dealer thought thought it needs head gasket but was not 100% sure and gave me a price of not to exceed $4800. The compression in one of the cylinders is zero.

If you like the car, consider a replacement head. There is an outfit in Fla that sells reconditioned heads for a small fortune, I think.

If you do the labor of taking the head off and have a machine shop replace the valves, their cost is a few hundred dollars + valves if needed.

If you sell the car as is, getting $1,000 would be a bonus.

If you get a donor engine, 1997 and 1998 2.3L engines cost a bit and you do not know the condition. But the 8 hours of replacing the engine could get costly.

Perhaps you just have a blown headgasket. A bad set of rings would be enough to scrap the block.

I guess I'll have some thinking to do and I do like the car. Thank you for all the info.

You might want to get another opinion from a good independent. A leakdown test is in order to determine if it is a valve or a set of rings. A simple tablespoon of oil in the bad cylinder should raise the compression if it is not the rings.

If the compression rises to about 50+ with oil added, it might just be a dirty valve seat.
