overheating 850

Hey I have a overheatig problem with my volvo 850 when i drive it, it's fine until i go about 40 mpg and i see the heat gauge go up fast... so some of the problems i can think of is the engine has some moisture in it so the oil stick shows a milky white supstance on it also i noticed my cooling fan wasnt coming on so basically im just trying to figure out how i can keep the volvo from over heating.. oh fyi i did an engine swap recently.

One thing that will help is to not run the AC. The "milky white" stuff is not a good sign because it may indicate you have a cylinder head leak and coolant is getting into the oil. Although it can also be caused by only driving the car for short <15 min trips.

oil can be tested pretty cheaply at local truck parts suppliers and also by mail order

What is happening when your car is overheating?

Do you get steam coming out from under the hood?

How far are you continuing to drive after it overheats?

Or, are you just saying that the gauge is running a little high?

I suspect that the thermostat is closed, there should be enough air flow at 40 and above to keep the radiator cool. Yes, find out why the fan is not running. It uses the ECT sensor to start operation, or AC on.

Get that fan to run. Fan running has got to help a little
