850 Torque Rod Bushing - is this OK? 850 1996

I noticed, on our 96 850 non-turbo sedan, that the torque rod bushing at the top of the motor has a gap between inner and outer parts at the front and back. It was hard to get a photo of, but you can somewhat see it at this photobucket picture: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x182/arbuch/Bill%20tools%20for%20sale/Arabellatorquerodbushing.jpg

Is this normal, or should I be replacing the bushing?

Klaus' advice is generally quite good.

BUT, if you take a good look at the bushing, you will see that it is molded with two thin sections, front and back.

The thin rubber portions in these areas really do no work, and their loss is not important.

Is the rubber on the top and bottom torn or damaged? Then a new bushing is in order.

Rev the engine while you watch the bushing. If the engine moves smoothly and does not jump around, you probably do not need a new bushing.

Without even looking at the pic, replace it. If you want to make it easy on yourself, get a poly bushing. Some say that they can feel too much engine vibration with the poly, but I like to feel what the engine is sending me and have never been bothered by unwanted vibrations.
