hub noise 850 1996

Hi all, my 96 850 has developed a whining noise in the lhs front, much the same as a wheel bearing noise. The noise is there all the time, does not change with left or right load but gets a little harsher under brakes sometimes.Thought it might be a tyre noise but the fact it changes under brakes makes me think it is a hub bearing issue. Am i on the right path ? Looking forward to your input. Thanks David

Thanks for this, the noise seems to be constant but slightly deeper under brakes. I have only driven the car (wifes) around town and will take it onto expressway next weekend for more info. First i will do as you suggest and see what i can find. David

You didn't say if it changes with road speed. Here's some ideas: Pull the tire and swap it with the rear one to eliminate the tire, but while you have the tire off, rotate the hub by hand and see if any brake parts/shields are dragging on the rotor of if your pads are gone. Any of the brake parts rubbing on the rotor can make that kind of noise. It's very common for the metal shield behind the rotor to get bent and rub on the rotor.
