Long Wheelbase on Ex. Ed? S80 01

I saw in another group that the S80 has a longer wheelbase for the Executive Edition. I know the brochure says "Additional rear seat leg room".

I would think that it is too expensive to modify the platform and metal for a very limited production car.

So does the Exrcutive Edition have a longer wheelbase? Who knows?

Re: Long Wheelbase on Ex. Ed? S80 01

The S80 Executive has the same wheelbase as the other S80's.

THe rear seat legroom growth is due to the rear seat losing its fold-down backrest function and backrests being scooted back as a result.

The 960 model had a Royale edition that did have a 100mm or thereabouts wheelbase increase to give more rear room. The wheelbase stretch on this model may have some mistakenly believe that the Executive is done similarly.

Re: Long Wheelbase on Ex. Ed? S80 01

It's too bad Volvo didn't import the LWB, aka SEL, Royale's into the states. That's been available on MB's since about 1964. My dad had a 1965 300SE LWB, aka 300SEL, and it was very nice to ride in the back. LOTS of rear leg room. He would sit behind me when I drove it and read the paper with his legs crossed. It was amazing. The downside was that the car had a very complex air suspension and engine.
