My 2002 v70 xc had lost all emergency brake operation so I recently attempted to change out the parking brake shoes (and rear rotors/pads while i was there). The shoes were all metal, no pad...yikes. All was going well until I went to mount the new replacement shoes and noticed that the center mounting spring hole was in the wrong position. More searching online and I discovered that two versions are out there: The one I have which matches this diagram http://www.autopartsnetwork.com/images/catalog/brand/centric/640/11x08290.jpg known as "Centric Parts 111.08290" and the version Napa Auto Parts sells the "Altrom 0852802" which looks like this https://partimages.genpt.com/largeimages/968745.jpg -- notice difference in the middle spring mounting hole position and shape. Is this an error on behalf of Napa, Altrom, neither, or both? I brought them back into the store and he suggested I drill new holes in the right position. I figured I'd try ordering the Centric Parts version and I'm crossing my fingers that they match the diagram so I can get a refund for these Altrom shoes. Does anyone know what's going on with these two versions? Also, every parking brake shoe diagram Napa had on their computer matched their Altrom version (with the circular hole offset toward the rear).
I have two days where I'll need to drive without an e-brake...not thrilled about this ;) I've never used a parking brake in an emergency but murphy's law suggests I'll need to before tuesday when the new shoes arrive.
