High pitched ringing V70-XC70

I have had a few episodes of a transient, high-pitched sound coming from the engine area - front right. The sound is sort of like the sound you would hear from running your finger around a crystal water glass.

It is not associated with braking. It gets very loud and if I pull over and turn the engine off and then on again it usually goes away. I can't notice any differnce in performance with it. It has happened half a dozen times in the last few months but I can't find any particular patterns as to when it comes on.

Vague, I know, but any suggestions?

What year is your V70? Could it be the alarm failing?

Next time it happens, pull over and open the hood with the engine running and try to locate the noise.
