Where can I get a gas line check valve? V70-XC70 1999

Hello All,

I have a 1999 XC with 120,000 miles on it. In the last few months, I've experienced the situation of cranking the motor without it starting. I'll have to crank the engine two or more times before it will start. I've ruled out a clogged gas filter, faulty fuel pump, or defective camshaft sensor. My independent mechanic tells me the problem is (not unusual) that inside the fuel pump, which is located inside the gas tank, there is a check valve that is designed to maintain pressure inside the fuel line after you turn the engine off. This check valve will no longer properly close, therefore you lose fuel lilne pressure, which makes starting the engine difficult. A much less expensive repair over replacing the fuel pump, is to install an in-line check valve to help maintain the fuel line pressure.

The insider diameter of the fuel line is 6mm and the ouside diameter is 8 mm. I've check around local auto parts stores and I have come across plastic in-line check valves that may or may not fit the fuel line. Because this check valve will be exposed to stones and other small debris from the road due to its installation, I would prefer a check valve made out of metal.

My questions to all:

1) Can any one recommend where I can get an in-line check valve that will fit a XC?

2) Are in-line check valves made out of metal available?

Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh

The check valve keep the gasoline in the line rather than draining back to the tank. When that happens, there is no fuel pressure until the gas line fills with fluid. To verify, turn the engine off and immediately push in the schrader valve on the fuel rail, there should be a sucking sound rather than fuel spewing all over the engine bay.

Don't forget to check the fuel pressure regulator. It is on the frame directly behind the engine on the passenger side (for 1998, mot sure if it was moved for 1999). Just follow the fuel line from the cam cover bacckward. The FPR will have 2 vacuum lines.

I've seen them for sale before on ebay, but it's been probably a year ago that I saw them.
