Electrical and Engine problems... Please help... 850 1995

Ok, here are the problems:

1) This morning when I went to get in my car, I started it up. It sounded a little different (almost like a low battery) but finally kicked in. I decided to drive it around the neighborhood. It wasn't driving right. The car felt as if it was in a different gear than normal. When letting my foot off the accelerator, the car would feel like it was braking (as if it was in a different gear). Overall it just didnt drive right.

2) My intrument panel (Speedometer, Fuel, A/C controls, etc.) are out. I think I know the reason for this. I'm trying to install some neons in my car and in the process a + and - wire connected and caused my CD player fuse to burn out. I replaced the fuse and then noticed the intrument panel was out. My cd player now works, but its kind of flickering a bit.

I'm wondering if the wires connecting did anything to the engine? Another reason for the engine problem could be that we had a hard freeze last night and a light snow (my car was outside, which is abnormal). When I came out to the car, it had ice scattered on it and icecicles hangin off of it. Any ideas??? Thanks for ANY help!

    Nick,

The car "feeling different" is likely the "limp home mode" which causes the transmission to start in 3rd gear (same as winter mode). You didn't mention any other lamps like the "check engine" lamp which is odd if in "limp home". Check for codes, fuses, relays, and take care with your wiring or you can really mess up your electrics...I have a lot of respect for electrics in todays modern cars with ECMs etc, maybe I'm overeacting but the last thing you need is to replace one of the computers on board or fry a component...Good Luck...
